Abstract of MGEDGE Project

Turbulence computation in tokamaks requires high spatial resolution in combination with dynamics which is very different along than across magnetic field lines. Special coordinate systems are necessary. At the same time, vigorous turbulence tends to mix structures into statistically isotropic pieces at small scales, so that coordinate deformation is undesirable for the physics as well as for several solution techniques. Multigrid becomes an attractive method for this problem. Efficient techniques exist but improved scalability is needed to enable larger computations.
