Abstract of MGTRIOP Project

In the general structure of a gyrokinetic code, a series of field solves appears at the end of each time step. Current methods are limited to topologically rectangular or polar grids. The HLST project MGTRI of 2011/2012 developed parallel multigrid solvers for fluid codes built around an ordered triangular grid, eliminating singularities at both magnetic axis and X-point. We now propose to explore hybrid parallelisation with MPI and OpenMP to take advantage of the increasing multi-core nature of new architectures. The aim is to find the limits of increased parallelism scalability afforded by the partially-shared memory for these solvers.
