Abstract of ELEBC Project

The present project is fully embedded in the TSVV task "Design of a next generation European Edge and Boundary Code for reactor relevant devices with various magnetic configurations (including coupling to turbulence codes and pedestal-SOL interface)", which is focused on the development of the European Boundary Code (EBC). The activities concentrate on the solution of Poisson's and Ampere's equations. This constitutes one of the most important bottlenecks that turbulence boundary codes face and is emerging as one of the most crucial issues for the implementation of the EBC. We propose to complete a review of the present techniques to solve Poisson's and Ampere's equations in existing codes, focus on the most promising techniques (most likely based on sparse iterative algorithms), and implement it in a standalone library. This will ease the implementation of the solver on the EBC framework, as it is developed, and its testing in one of the existing boundary codes.
